Applied Arts:
The block:

I wanted each side of my wooden block to relate to one another. Previously, I had found that the drill created some interesting dents in the metal; not only to look at but also to feel. From that i decided that I could have a series of different types of spotted, dented or drilled pieces on my block. I like the variation of shiny and dull surfaces on the block but I didn't feel that copper would complement my theme so I chose to keep all the metal as tin plated steel.

Junko Mori

From the Artist  "I am always drawn to the visual impact of an aggregate assembled with many small components and find infinite possibilities of the form multiplied by the vital power beyond the physical space, such as cell division through the microscope. My work consists of multiples of individually forged silver or steel and the subtle difference of each piece results from hand-hammering. No piece is individually planned but becomes fully formed within the making and thinking process. The uncontrollable beauty is the core of my concept."
Sculpture - A Very Large Propagation Project of Textured Spikes

I find Junk's work most inspiring because of her clear connotations between her work and natural objectives; usually from plants. The pieced together strands of steel reflect movement through the way the surface texture of the metal reflects the light and through the way the metal is pieced together.
